Pei&#8217;s iconic Dallas City Hall from the wrecking ball, a prospect now under consideration due to a massive deferred maintenance bill and pressure from the development community to replace it with a new sports arena. In my estimation, demolition of this masterwork \u2014 Ada Louise Huxtable called it &#8220;breathtaking&#8221; \u2014 would stand as the most significant loss of a public building since Penn Station was torn down in the 1960s. As I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/architecture\/2025\/10\/15\/lamster-keep-your-hands-off-dallas-city-hall\">write<\/a> in the Dallas Morning News:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Of all the irresponsible, ill-conceived, short-sighted, counter-productive, cynical, philistine and downright dumb ideas I\u2019ve heard in my time writing about Dallas, the prospect of razing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/architecture\/2022\/12\/21\/dallas-city-hall-why-the-citys-most-hated-building-might-be-its-greatest-masterpiece\/\">City Hall<\/a>\u00a0stands alone. Demolishing architect\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/architecture\/2019\/05\/16\/i-m-pei-was-a-quiet-architect-whose-sharp-edged-modernist-work-in-dallas-and-beyond-made-headlines\/\">I.M.
